Mr. McHugh is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, with a B.M. degree in percussion performance. He has taught privately since 1979, has coached the marching percussion section at Western Guilford High School, and has taught percussion at HPU.
Mr. McHugh’s performance credits include nationally known acts, such as the Shirelles, Frank Fontaine, the Sammy Kaye Big Band Orchestra, Susan Ray, and Jim Cole. In addition, he has performed with diverse local acts, including the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, the U.S. Air Jazz Band, the Piedmont Wind Symphony, and numerous rock, jazz, and theater groups. Mr. McHugh also has extensive experience as a church musician. He is currently active as a staff percussionist at Jamestown United Methodist Church, under the direction of Ashby Brown, Music Minister.
