Baritone Scott MacLeod excels as a diverse and engaging interpreter of both new works and seasoned classics. Media reviews have called him “splendid” (operaonline.us), “impressive” (Pensacola News Journal), “emotional… equal parts sweetness and swagger” (Mobile Register), and “a voice to enjoy with every note” (Salt Lake Tribune). Classical Voice of North Carolina said of a recent production “[his] voice is strong and clear, his diction, perfect, and his acting, marvelous… he won this listener's affection from the moment he arrived onstage.” He has appeared in a variety of venues both nationally and abroad, including: Central City Opera, Opera Omaha, Opera North, Utah Festival Opera, Mobile Opera, Duluth Festival Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Greensboro Opera, Long Leaf Opera, Opera on the James, the Tucson Symphony, the North Carolina Symphony, and the National Symphony of Costa Rica.

Signature roles include the title role in Gianni Schicchi, Giuseppe in The Gondoliers, Count Almaviva in The Marriage of Figaro, the title role in Dallapiccola’s Il Prigioniero, and The Lecturer in Dominick Argento’s A Water Bird Talk. He can also be heard in the role of Apollo in the world-premiere recording of John Eccles’ Semele. In recent months, he performed Masetto in Don Giovanni with Opera on the James, Schaunard in La Bohème with the Duluth (MN) Festival Opera, Leo in J. Mark Scearce’s A Tree - A Rock - A Cloud, and Lee Hyla’s Wilson’s Ivory Bill with the Chicago Chamber Musicians.  He made his Carnegie Hall solo debut in Mendelssohn's Elijah with the New York Chamber Orchestra in March 2009.

In addition to his position at HPU he serves on study abroad faculty with Michigan State University in Bregenz, Austria. Several of his former students are now actively performing in professional theaters and on Broadway tours. He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and frequently guests in clinics and competitions.

Mr. MacLeod is a graduate of Northwestern University and holds a Master’s degree from Florida State University, where he was awarded a University Fellowship. He is currently pursuing a DMA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
