Mr. Chamis earned a teaching assistantship in the UNCSA guitar program (2009-2010) and earned his registration as a guitar instructor with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. He was a classroom teacher of guitar in the Guilford County Schools for two years (2005-2007) at the middle and high school levels. Before attending Guilford College in 2002, Mike taught guitar and electric bass privately, maintaining a weekly roster of students for over 15 years. He has also performed at festivals, schools, and music clubs since 1981, including 7 years as music director for Wheel Theatre Company of Winston-Salem (1992-1999).
Currently, when Mr. Chamis is not teaching at HPU, he teaches at Community Music School of UNCSA at the Stevens Center (Winston-Salem, NC) and serves on the board of the Piedmont Classic Guitar Society.

Mike's education includes M. M. in Guitar Performance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (2010), B. A. in Music Performance from Guilford College (2005), North Carolina Certification for Music K-12 from Winston-Salem State University (2007), and B. S. in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1985).
