As a performer, Dr. Crump has sung both mezzo and soprano repertoire. Before transitioning to lyric soprano, she performed in Amahl and the Night Visitors as the Mother, Little Buttercup in H.M.S. Pinafore where she “brought an even and smooth mezzo-soprano voice and a good sense of timing to the role” (Classical Voice of North Carolina), Ms. Benson in Lakme and Zita in Gianni Schicchi. As a lyric soprano she has sung the title role Suor Angelica in Suor Angelica, and Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus. While studying, she consistently placed in regional competitions, won a concert-aria competition and was presented with the Voice Recital of Distinction honor.
Melanie earned her degrees in music from Appalachian State University (BM in General Music, MM in Choral Directing, MM in Vocal Performance) where she studied with Mr. Randall Outland. She later continued her studies at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she received a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance studying with Dr. Carla LeFevre and Dr. Robert Wells.
Melanie continues to perform locally and has been featured as the guest soloist in venues throughout North Carolina. She also serves as a vocal instructor for The Music Academy of North Carolina, and as the organist for her church. Dr. Crump resides in Colfax with her husband Scott and their beautiful son, Watson.
